The Vinted 30 sales rule, explained
What the rule says
Since 2024, platforms like Vinted must report a seller to HMRC unless they made fewer than 30 sales and received €2,000 or less in the year. So you're reported if you go over either limit:
| Your year | Reported? |
|---|---|
| 12 sales, £400 | No |
| 30 sales, £300 | Yes (30 sales) |
| 8 sales, £1,900 | Yes (over about £1,700) |
How the count works
- It's a calendar year, January to December, not the April to April tax year.
- Every sale counts, including your own old clothes.
- The money limit is set in euros, so the pound figure moves a little with the exchange rate. About £1,700 is a fair guide.
- Reports go to HMRC by 31 January the next year, and you get a copy.
It isn't a new tax
The tax rules didn't change. Selling your own things is still usually tax-free, and reselling was always taxable over the £1,000 trading allowance. What changed is that HMRC can now see the figures. See Do I pay tax on Vinted? for which applies to you.
Keep an eye on your count
Vinted doesn't show a running total of sales towards the limit. ResellSorted does: it counts your sales and takings for the current calendar year so you can see the limit coming.
